Irish Trade Surplus Rises In January

Ireland's merchandise trade surplus increased from the previous month in January, preliminary data release by the Central Statistics Office showed Friday.
The trade surplus increased to EUR3.246 billion in January from EUR2.991 billion in December. In November, the trade balance was a surplus of EUR4.792 billion.
Export of goods increased 10 percent on an annual basis to EUR7.684 billion in January. Imports advanced 3 percent year-on-year to EUR4.439 billion during the month.
In the whole of 2011, the trade balance was a surplus of EUR44.697 billion, up from EUR43.429 billion recorded in the previous year. Export of goods advanced 4 percent annually to EUR92.936 billion during the year, while imports rose 5 percent to EUR48.238 billion.
