Taiwan Unemployment Rate Edges Down In October

Taiwan's unemployment rate fell modestly in October, data from the Director-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics showed Friday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate edged down to 4.17 percent in October from 4.18 percent in September. Economists had forecast an increase to 4.2 percent.

The unadjusted rate was 4.24 percent in October, the same as in the previous month. The number of unemployed persons totaled 487,000, an increase of 0.21 percent from the previous month. However, it decreased 1.28 percent year-on-year.

Total employment increased 0.14 percent month-on-month to 11 million in October. This was 0.90 percent higher than a year earlier.
